The Green Chair Project
On Saturday, November 23rd our chapter sent 6 volunteers to assist The Green Chair Project with their quarterly Grateful Living Porch Sale. Everyone had a rewarding experience in helping with duties including the staging of furniture (for sale to the general public, open only on a quarterly basis), receiving incoming donations while performing repairs and reconditioning of furniture.
As a general mission overview, The Green Chair Project provides home furnishings donated from our community for families and individuals who have transitioned from experiencing homelessness or disasters and have secured sustainable housing. The reusable gifts are then cleaned and repaired by volunteers and presented in a way that promotes both dignity and respect.
For a small fee, families working with case managers from partnering agencies, can select furniture, linens, cookware and accessories to outfit their new homes. Families exchange Green Points for needed items on the showroom floor. The Green Chair experience encourages families to prioritize and make choices and empowers them to create their surroundings and rebuild their lives.
Our Chapter will have other opportunities to partner with this wonderful organization in the near future. Keep an eye open for your chance to be a part of giving back to our community!
